What's on My Nightstand - August

Here is what is currently on my nightstand from the bottom up:

Holy Bible - I'm still working my way through the Bible. My goal is to read the entire book within a year. Currently I am in 1 Corinthians (morning reading) and Psalms (nighttime reading).

The green velor notebook. This isn't a book I'm reading, it's my "Book of Books" and as such generally is located on my nightstand with the books I am reading.

Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis. Yes, yes, I know. I was reading this last month... I'm still working my way through it. Four chapters left.

Sister Carrie by Theodore Dreiser. I know very little about this book, though I have read that it was a very controversial book when written. So much so it took a while for Dreiser to find a publisher willing to print it. I may not finish this book, I might return it to the library as fast as I can, but I won't know until I get a chance to look at it closer. I just stumbled upon it while browsing. We shall see...

The House of Seven Gables by Nathaniel Hawthorne. This has been on my "To Read" list for a long time. I'm finally going to pick it up and I can hardly wait!

The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Graham. I wasn't planning to start this right now, the other night I found myself in between books -- finished with what I had been reading and waiting for my next book requests to arrive at the library.

The Fairy's Mistake by Gale Carson Levine. This is a very short story written by the author of Ella Enchanted. I've not read the latter, but have seen the movie. It was through a friend that I heard about this book and have added it to my reading list. Because it is so short you should expect a review in the next few days.

And that's it for this time. What's on your nightstand?

Hey! My mother-in-law first told me about Sister Carrie but she didn't think it was very good. She couldn't really remember what it was about though. I'll be curious to hear your opinion on it.

The fairy book also sounds interesting. Hmm...lots of good picks to read! (Including Wind in the Willows - yay!)

I've been meaning to get around to the House of Seven Gables. I had a lot of classics in my pile this month too!!

Mere Christianity is a good book. But just a hard read at times. Take your time :-) Those non-fiction books are hard for me to read but I love when I get them done.

Great stack! I haven't read any of these (at least not all the way through) but would read almost any of them! :)

Funny...I didn't see the movie but read Ella Enchanted. I liked the book a lot.

Great stack. Thanks for sharing.

I was thinking of using House of 7 Gables for a Classics Bookclub sometime, so let me know what you think!

You have some great ones going, and some that are new to me. I'm working my way through the Bible too, but I've set a two-year goal... and I'm using a companion guide.

Good stuff! Thanks for stopping in at my blog, even though my 'nightstand' post was late.
