What's On My Nightstand - October

Another month has blown by and we're nearing winter. Surprisingly my nightstand is fairly clear as I end the month of October.

Yep, three books. That's it currently. From bottom to top:

1. Queen Victoria by Noel Streatfield I picked up through a used book seller. After seeing the movie Victoria & Albert I've been curious to learn more about the Queen and upon a recommendation that this was one of the best biographical works I went hunting till I found a copy. I think it's a little ironic that I'm reading this after finishing a historical novel where the heroine is the great-grand-daughter of Queen Victoria.

2. Paradise Lost by John Milton. I'm in trouble with this one. It was the selection for my book club for October. We are meeting tomorrow night and I've barely cracked the cover... I have a feeling this will return to my "To be Read" shelf for another try later.

3. Bleak House by Charles Dickens. This is what I have been reading instead of what I should be reading (Paradise Lost). Stay tuned for a review, I only have 300 pages left of this 989 page tome.

As for November, I have planned to read another Agatha Christie novel, but beyond that I have no immediate plans. My reading this autumn has been driven purely by whim.

My December is going to be driven by whim and I am SO looking forward to that! =D

Well, Bleak House is daunting enough to excuse only three books in your stack. ;)

I'm reading Bleak House now as well. Actually, listening to it on audio book, which means I only listen to it when I'm working out or walking (my incentive to work out/walk), which means it's slow going.

I love Paradise Lost, but I don't think it's a one month read. It helps to read it outloud. I think it is one of the most beautiful poems I've ever read. But I haven't read much poetry, so there you go.
