In honor of today being one of the most romantic days of the year I thought it might be fun to list my top 10 favorite romantic reads. In this list you will not find any chic-lit or the cheap "romance" novels you might find at the grocery store check-out line. Most of these books are classics; several are books I've read multiple times, and they are all books that I have finished with that delicious sigh of contentment a reader has when the story ends perfectly.Happy Valentine's Day!

As you might have guessed it was very difficult to keep this list to only ten, so because I can't help it, here are the ten runners up that didn't make it to the first list, in no particular order: Anne's House of Dreams by L. M. Montgomery, Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen, Lavender and Old Lace by Myrtle Reed, Wives and Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell, Mrs. Mike by Benedict and Nancy Freedman,, Celia's House by D. E. Stevenson, Little Dorrit by Charles Dickens, The Blue Sapphire by D. E. Stevenson, Ella Enchanted by Gail Carsen Levine, and Green Dolphin Street by Elizabeth Goudge.

I love "Rebecca" and "Anna Karenina." And most of the others I love are ones you've mentioned. I also really like "The Girl of the Limberlost" which has really sweet romantic elements to it.

Danielle, I loved Rebecca too. Haven't read Anna Karenina, need to. I'd forgotten about The Girl of the Limberlost, Porter's books are good! Thanks. :)
Believe me, "Anna Karenina" will be a WAY easier Russian read than "The Brothers Karamazov"!
Ooh, definitely agree about Austen - Persuasion is definitely my favorite by her. The first book I thought of was Gone with the Wind - even though it doesn't end happily, I still enjoy the ride! Ooh, I see someone mentioned Rebecca, I love that one too!
Dana, GWTW IS a great read. I loved it so much more than I expected. I didn't put it on this list, simply because it didn't make give me a contented sigh when I finished it. But it is a worthy romance, a worthy read to be sure.
The only one in your list that I have read is Pride and Prejudice...loved that book. I think I shall keep your list and give a few of them a read.

Great list. I'm afraid my #1 is only your #6 however. :) I also love David Copperfield.
One of my favorites is Gift of the Magi by O. Henry. It's so sweet how they both give up something of worth to them to get something for the other.
And, Anne's romance/marriage with Gilbert in Anne of Green Gables.

Oh Persuasion- my favorite Jane Austen! i love the letter Frederick writes to Anne at the end- so passionate! :-)
The only two on your list that I have read are P & P and Shakespeare.
