The Second Maud Hart Lovelace Reading Challenge Begins!

Hurray! It's officially time to begin the second annual Maud Hart Lovelace Reading Challenge!

This challenge will run here at A Library is a Hospital for the Mind from October 1 through October 31 and will include book reviews, trivia posts, and give-aways!

Here are the "rules" to participate:

1. Select which Lovelace book (or books) you wish to read during the coming month.

2. Write a post announcing your plans to participate in the challenge. You can include your reading list or just use the post to spread the word about the reading challenge to your readers. Then sign up here by linking your name and blog to the challenge (see Mr. Linky below).

3. Email me if you would like to post the MHLRC button on your blog or website. (libraryhospitalblog AT gmail DOT com).

4. Return throughout the month to learn more about the opportunities to win either Emily of Deep Valley or Carney's House Party/Winona's Pony Cart thanks to the generosity of HarperCollins Publishers who have offered to mail complimentary copies to the winning participants in this challenge. The other give-aways will include Betsy-Tacy themed totes and other Maud Hart Lovelace related gifts. Check back each Sunday during the month of October to see what is being given-away and how to enter for a chance to win.

5. Visit around the blogs of other MHLRC participants. It's a great opportunity to get to know fellow bibliophiles and find out what books they love.

6. Come back on Sunday, October 31, 2010 and link up your final Maud Hart Lovelace related posts/reviews or reading challenge wrap-up.

Have fun!

Well, you know I'm in! I found my first post where I said so and I planned to read the rest of the series (and I did!)

My next review of the final couple of titles will be up next week.

Glad you prompted me to read these!

Hooray! I can't wait to get started. My 11-year-old daughter and I will both be participating.

Since I've already read the entire series, I think I'll re-read CARNEY'S HOUSE PARTY. My daughter will re-read BETSY AND TACY GO DOWNTOWN.

I love this challenge! One question - the Mr. Linky lists Friendship Friday, not the MHL challenge, but is that the one we're supposed to use? I will be re-reading Emily of Deep Valley and Carney's House Party/Winona's Pony Cart!

BookClubGirl, sorry for the confusion. Yes, that's the correct Mr. Linky. When you have a free membersihp to Mr. Linky you can't make your own Mr. Linkys. You have to select from the existing ones. Maybe I'm too cheap, but since I only use Mr. Linky once or twice a year I haven't ponied up the funds for a subscription. I hope that doesn't cause problems. I used the free links last year and it worked fine. If someone has a better suggestion I am open. :)

no worries - I only used my first one this year too, and I think I ended up buying some low level membership, but I totally get it. doesn't really seem like something one should pay for.

But enough about all that -- so excited for all things Maud to be discussed!

Thanks for hosting again!

Mr. Linky remembered information that I didn't want it to. The link is correct but the extra info (the part where it says "Anansi Boys" is wrong). Can you fix it for me please?

Love those books! Mom and Dad read them to me before I could, and I've reread them countless times. Gonna love finding one to read. (Or two)

Okay, I'm in. Since I admitted in my blog entry, I'll confess here too -- I have NEVER read a Maud Hart Lovelace book. So I'll be reading Betsy-Tacy to my daughter this month.

I am new to all this blogging stuff. I have a web site http://web.me.com/visne/Welcome.html but Mr Link will not accept that. I do have a blog on it and that is where I want to keep it. Any suggestions? I just bought the first three Betsy-Tacy books to read for my challenge.

I think we'll start again from the beginning as a read-aloud. Coincidentally, our family is also running the Betsy-Tacy booth at Mankato's History Fest this week. :)

Oh, and Mr. Linky linked to a post in my blog about a purple cabbage experiment. Can that be fixed to simply be the blog itself? Thanks!

Open ID doesn't accept homeschooljournal.net but my homeschool blog is here: http://magicandmayhem.homeschooljournal.net/

Thanks for hosting! I just posted about the challenge and my reading list.

Are we supposed to put our review links in the Mr. Linky as well?

Thanks for hosting the challenge! I've only read the 3rd and 4th books in the series, so this year I'll go back and read the first two volumes. I'm really looking forward to it!

I'm a little late, but excited to join the challenge! I love Maud Hart Lovelace.

A little late to the challenge, but read it about it on Reading to Know and would love to join in. Will write a post for my blog as well!

Anna, no you don't have to use the Mr. Linky right now to post your reviews. At the end of the reading challenge (Oct 31) I will put up a new Mr. Linky where you can link up any reviews or postings you do.

Finished Carney's House Party! I liked it even better the second time because I was reading it for itself and not just to eke out a little more about Betsy and Joe. Wonderful book. Do you think the Vassarites still have sister classes and sing to each other before Chapel? Do they even still have Chapel???

I was introduced to Betsy and Tacy last October and am happy to be reading more this year! I love the name of your blog!

I also love the name of your blog! I signed up for the challenge (via Melissa Wiley), a bit late but very enthusiastically. Thanks for hosting!

I'm signing up late as well, but I am very excited. I will use my long subway commute to catch up. While I commenting here with a blogger identity, I will be participating via a wordpress blog. Please visit: http://abiographersblog.com/
