What's On My Nightstand: September

I've been participating in the What's On Your Nightstand? posts for over a year now. Just for fun I clicked over to see what I was reading last year at this time. Of the six books I listed I finished five. Not bad considering some months I end up reading dozens of books, just not the ones I mention in my Nightstand post, but then I guess that's what happens when you're a reader of books by whim vs. duty.

Last month I projected to read three books, one of those three books carries over to my Nightstand List for this month and I must admit I'm a little tired of it being there, but it's my own fault for not having read it. Nevertheless, I am determined that it won't be on my October Nightstand list! As for the others this month, they are all new.

Rainbow Valley by L. M. Montgomery
(#7 in the Anne of Green Gables series)

Miss Buncle's Book by D. E. Stevenson
(Book 1 of 4 in the Miss Buncle series)

Jayber Crow by Wendell Berry
(Selected by my book club for our November meeting)

A Dog Called Scholar by Ann H. White

Some of these books might be finished before the month of September is over and in that case I'm hoping to fill up October with some other books like Murder in Mesopotamia by Agatha Christie (for my personal AC reading challenge), perhaps Dracula by Bram Stoker, and of course several books by Maud Hart Lovelace as part of my Maud Hart Lovelace Reading Challenge!

Speaking of which... Check back on Monday, September 28 for the launching of the first ever:

What a fun idea -- to see what you were reading a year ago.

ah hem. It's not like you do'nt know this but Rainbow Valley wasn't written by Maud Hart Lovelace. Although I must say that now that I've started into the Betsy-Tacy Challenge, I don't resent the mix-up as much anymore. ;D ha!

Well! Your books look fun and I hear you when you say you do'nt want to see the same books on your nightstand anymore!

Carrie, wow... LOL that is bad! Will it be forgiven if I tell you that I have a bad cold and woke up this morning with a migraine and a 2 year old who was testing me every time I turned around... including no nap. Or would I just be whining? I've fixed the error. Thanks.

Ooooooooo, a DE Stevenson. I KNEW you were the right sort of girl. (Don't know how I missed your sept. 11 post about her.) I've not read the Buncle books. Let me know how they are!

My very favorite Stevenson is Celia's House. I read it for the first time when I was twelve, and just reread it (again) last week. I would literally hold it to my chest after my nightcap each evening (aka my bedtime reading). One of my favorite books of all time...

You've got a lot of fun books on your nightstand to read. I'm still looking forward to your opinion on Rainbow Valley. :)

I ordered the first four Betsy Tacy books from Barnes and Noble. I forgot the challenge starts Monday and I already read the first. How did I grow up without knowing about these cute stories. Thank you for recommending them. I would never have known about them. :)
