2009 Reading Projection

I've been asked by a few people what my reading list will be for 2009. My answer has mostly been, "I'm still working on it." But the thing is this -- I tend to read by mood -- whatever book "sounds" good I read. The only exceptions would be books chosen for the book club I belong to and books I need to read in order to meet an online book challenge, although I try to match those with my mood whenever possible.

That being said... I've put together a top 10 list of books I plan to read in 2009 (in no particular order). As for the rest of the books... We're all in for a surprise.

1. Emma by Jane Austen
2. The Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett
3. Mary Barton by Elizabeth Gaskell
4. Nothing by the Truth by Avi
5. The Blue Castle by Lucy Maud Montgomery
6. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
7. A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
8. The Thin Man by Dashiell Hammett
9. The 101 Dalmations by Dodie Smith
10. Washington Burning by Lee Standiford

In addition I plan to read no less than 12 Agatha Christie mystery novels bringing my total read to 20 by 2010 with only 60 left. Also, I plan to finish reading the Anne series by Lucy Maud Montgomery.

Thats a great list to start out with! I have heard of quite a few of them, but only read a couple...

I also kind of find it hard to make a list of the books I am going to read. I have a small list started, but I have expansion plans already! I posted my begining list on my blog:

Happy New Year!

I hope you'll review them when you're done. I haven't read Mary Barton, Nothing but the Truth, The Blue Castle, or Washington Burning and would like to know what they're like.

My reading list is always small, too, because I like to have room for whatever strikes my fancy. Ten is a great number!

I am fairly new to your blog and am really enjoying it. It is probably my favorite book blog. :)

The Blue Castle is my 16year old daughters favorite book. It has been on her Christmas list for several years and she finally got it this year! I think I will have to read it, too!

Yay for the Blue Castle!

Watching YOUR reading list this past year actually was my encouragment to say "I'm not creating a reading list for 2009. I'm reading for fun and pleasure!" I've envied the freedom and flexibility you've given yourself so that's my "plan" too.

Hello Sarah,

Brittanie,

My Chicago t-shirt company, Cameesa, is partnering with booklovers around the world, and we were wondering if "A library is a hospital for the mind" would be interested in working with us.

Please email me when you get a chance at kamil@cameesa.com.

Thank you,

Kamil Chmielewski

Oooh...I LOVED The Thin Man. I actually took a class in "hard-boiled" American literature and enjoyed the book so much that I wrote papers on it for two different classes. One of my teachers didn't like this, because she claimed that Hammett was a hack, but she still gave me an A. I'm not sure who got the last word there... :)

Thank goodness more people are finding out about Blue Castle. You will adore it.

Wuthering, not so hot. How two sisters wrote such diverse fiction is beyond me.

I like your idea of only picking a few. I only ever get to a few on my rather lengthy list, but it's fun to dream about the possibilities.

I enjoy your blog!
