Booking Through Thursday: Authors

This week's Booking Through Thursday focuses on authors. I have answered the "5 for favorites" list below... and added a question of my own, making it 6. Be sure to leave a comment with your answers, or a link to your blog, if you want to play too.

1. Do you have a favorite author?
Jane Austen

2. Have you read everything he or she has written?
No, I still need to read Emma.

3. Did you LIKE everything?
So far, yes.

4. How about a least favorite author?
Probably Ernest Hemingway. I've yet to read a story written by him that I liked.

5. An author you wanted to like, but didn’t?
Ernest Hemingway. He's such a lauded author... but I just hate his stories. Another one is Mary Westmacott, the nom de plume of Agatha Christie. I hoped to enjoy the books under this name, but didn't like the first one I read and have since decided to pass on reading any others. I'll stick to the crime novels under her real name.

6. Have you ever met a real author? (I added this one)
Yes, I met the N. A. Perez, the daughter of the original author of the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys books. She is an author and gave me an autographed copy of one of her first books. I also received two letters from Janette Oke during my childhood, although I've never met her in person.

Your question number 6 and the answer are pretty cool.

And I didn't know Christie had a nom de plume. Interesting!

I can not believe I made it out of college with an English Lit degree and I've never read Jane Austen. I kept missing (in that I had another class at that time, not that I skipped because I wouldn't do that. Honest!)the classes that centered around her works.

I'm really behind with blog posts too, reading and writing! But the rush of Christmas is nearly about to give way to the ENJOYING part (one more present to buy!) so I'm trying to catch up, and I'd love to play..

1. Do you have a favorite author?
Jerome K Jerome

2. Have you read everything he or she has written?
No, there seems to be quite a lot and a big chunk of it is out of print. I have been tracking down copies over the years though

3. Did you LIKE everything?
Yes. Despite the hundred years between his writing and me reading, I love how modern it feels

4. How about a least favorite author?
Jack Kerouac

5. An author you wanted to like, but didn’t?
Jack Kerouac. I had to read Visions of Cody for my Eng Lit class. The ONLY time I have ever ever, thrown a book across the wall in frustration. And that was when I got to the last page. The whole thing was a a trial. I can't see the appeal at all. I know that he is celebrated for his wild and free lifestyle but that just made me really cross. I just wanted him to grow up and sort himself out and take responsibility for those he had a duty to. I plan on reading Joyce Johnson's Minor Characters to see if I can try to understand him and that whole period of literature from a female perspective.

6. Have you ever met a real author?
My aunt co-authored some children's picture books which, although sadly out of print, my little girl loves (Not the pig or horse stuff, but the others). My husband's aunt wrote a book of poetry. And I've attended readings from and had books signed by Tony Harrison and Simon Armitage - does that count?

Thanks for that. It was fun!
